We offer the Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in both Accounting and Business Administration with specializations in finance, marketing, business entrepreneurship, international business, and business administration. Major Requirements
Furman students interested in the Accounting major or the Business Administration major should contact the Department Coordinator of the Business and Accounting Department (Anna Notation-Rhoades) to schedule an informational meeting.
Our Degrees
If you are interested in declaring Accounting as your major, be sure to contact a member of the accounting faculty to discuss courses, scheduling, and future ambitions. Our faculty can make sure you have taken the right path to your desired goal after Furman. When you are ready to declare your major, complete this Major Declaration Survey and Department Coordinator Anna Notation-Rhoades will contact you to complete the process.
If you are interested in declaring the Business Administration major, you will be able to choose from five tracks based upon your own interests. The five tracks are finance, marketing, business entrepreneurship, international business, and business administration. No matter which track you choose, you will complete six core foundational courses and a common capstone course. The remainder of your major courses will vary in accordance with your track focus and may consist of track required courses, primary track electives and secondary track electives. There is a summary of the tracks below on this page. When you are ready to declare your major, complete this Major Declaration Survey and Department Coordinator Anna Notation-Rhoades will contact you to complete the process.
Business Administration Tracks

Business administration majors can pursue a finance, marketing, business entrepreneurship, international business, or business administration track. As a business administration major in our department, you will benefit from a curriculum that relies on experiential exercises and projects to help you understand the core principles of accounting and business management. Additionally, course options recognize the value of interdisciplinary study, a hallmark of Furman's liberal arts education, and include courses across multiple Furman academic departments.

The Business Finance track allows students interested in pursuing careers in banking, investment management, financial analysis, consulting, and other finance related fields to learn the fundamentals of finance and gain necessary real-world knowledge by engaging in projects and internships related to their track.

The Business Marketing track allows students interested in pursuing careers in business development and sales, brand management, commercial real estate, and other marketing related fields to learn the fundamentals of marketing and gain necessary real-world knowledge by engaging in projects and internships related to their major.

- COM 376 Strategic Communication
The Business Entrepreneurship track equips students that have an interest in developing new ideas or new businesses and other organizations with the tools to evaluate, develop, and communicate those ideas. Students will engage in creativity and design thinking, opportunity evaluation, market research, business model development, and pitching and communicating new ideas in startups and existing organizations. The track is inherently experiential, and project oriented in nature.

The International Business track gives students a wide range of options to build on the core business courses to study the diverse facets of international business practices. The International Business track requires students to complete at least one experience in learning about and engaging with another culture and business environment. This requirement may be fulfilled by a study away experience outside of the United States or an international business related internship.

The Business Administration track is a general track and is a good choice for students interested in careers in operations management, human resources, consulting, and other management fields. Students explore specific areas of interest through elective course selections and internships.

Career Opportunities
In our department, you will learn skills that can be applied to any career and it is part of the reason our graduates are so successful.
Six out of ten Furman graduates are working in some business-related field, including marketing, accounting, finance and public relations. That’s because a liberal arts degree is in high demand no matter what you do in the work force. In addition to enhancing your technical skills, you will leave Furman knowing how to think critically, how to learn, and how to see things from multiple perspectives. Furman Board of Trustees approves faculty promotions and tenure
The Furman University Board of Trustees approved promotions and tenure for a number of faculty members during its spring meeting in May. All recommendations for promotion and tenure are effective Aug. 1, 2025.
