Fall Course Registration

Last updated July 11, 2025

By Jessica M. Berkey-Barnes (she/her) Associate Dean of Student Involvement and Engagement

Course Registration opens for all new students on Monday July 21 at 12 p.m. (Noon) EDT and will be open through July 25 at 5 p.m.  Registration into courses is first-come, first-served, so it is best to try to register for courses as early on July 21 as you can.
All incoming students must meet with an advisor to discuss potential courses prior to registration. If you did not participate in Summer Orientation on-campus in June or have not yet completed a virtual advising session, please click this link to sign up for a virtual advising appointment as soon as possible. Students who do not meet with an advisor prior to July 18 will have an advising hold placed on their account which will prevent registration until an advising meeting occurs.
After you complete your advising meeting, you are ready to search for courses and create a saved schedule. On registration day, you can access your saved schedule and register for multiple courses at once from the schedule. You can also register for courses one at a time.
To create your saved schedule, you should log into Workday and complete the following steps (if you have any difficulty logging into Workday, please contact the ITS Service Center at 864-294-3277 or via email at service.center@furman.edu):
  1. Find Your Assigned FYW in Workday starting July 14. You will be placed into an FYW and do not need to include this course on your saved schedule since you have already been pre-registered for that course. Please note that if you check and do not see an FYW on your schedule, it means that you have not yet been assigned to one. Our Writing Programs Director is working to assign all new students to an FYW either during the fall or spring semester. If you have yet to be assigned to one, do not panic as it most likely means you will be assigned to an FYW for the spring semester. Go ahead and create a saved schedule based on needing to take four other classes for the fall semester. Our Writing Programs Director will follow up with more information for you soon.
  2. Find Your Assigned Pathways Class in Workday starting July 14. To view this information, follow the instructions for finding your assigned FYW above. You will be placed into your Pathways class and do not need to include this course on your saved schedule since you have already been pre-registered for that course.
  3. Find Course Listings to identify a set of appropriate courses based on what you discussed with your advisor. Be mindful of your language placement and the time of your assigned FYW as you build your schedule.
  4. Create a Saved Schedule that includes the courses for which you would like to register. You can create multiple schedules if you would like – just be sure to create meaningful names for them so you know which is which (e.g., Fall 2025 – first choices, Fall 2025 – back up plan).
  5. Check for holds and resolve them if needed or you may not be able to register for your classes. Instructions for who to contact and/or how to resolve the specific hold will be found in the resolution instructions to the right of the hold in Workday.
  6. Be Ready to Register from your Saved Schedule on July 21 beginning at 12 p.m. EDT!
Note: You might notice that a “New Student Holding Course for Billing” is currently sitting on your course schedule in Workday. This is a placeholder that is used to generate student bills prior to course registration. It will automatically drop off your schedule once you register so there is nothing you need to do.
In working to create your saved schedule, make sure to consider alternative course options that you may have discussed with your Summer Advisor. You might not get your ideal schedule on your first attempt and it may be possible that one of the classes you were hoping to take this semester filled up before you could register for it. Do not panic as this is common. Summer Advisors will be available to answer questions you have about alternate courses via e-mail on the afternoon of July 21 (12 p.m.-5 p.m. EDT). You will be able to adjust your schedule by AddingDropping or Swapping courses throughout the week.
If you need assistance with registration or have additional questions about the course registration process, please contact Enrollment Services by e-mailing them directly at enroll@furman.edu, or calling 864-294-2030.
Advising questions can be directed via e-mail to your summer advisor or to Dr. Brad Harmon, Assistant Dean for the First-Year and Second-Year Experience (brad.harmon@furman.edu).
The new student registration window will close on July 25, but you will have the opportunity to make further adjustments to your schedule if needed when you arrive on campus in August and meet with your Pathways advisor. Information about your assigned Pathways advisor and Pathways class meeting times will be sent to your Furman e-mail account during the first week in August.
