Frequently Asked Questions
Whether it is your first or last Family Weekend at Furman - we are here to help answer any questions or concerns you may have ahead of the event.
We look forward to welcoming you onto Furman's campus this fall!
- When does registration begin and end?
Registration opened on Wednesday, August 6, at 11 a.m. Registration will close at 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, September 24, or sooner if we’ve reached capacity. We recommend registering early as certain events will sell out. - Can I register over the phone?
We cannot take registrations over the phone - Where can I go to register for Family Weekend?
Registration happens here: https://alumnievents.furman.edu/e/furman-family-weekend-2025/ and can be accessed from any email or social media post announcing the event. - I just went to the website to register and the event(s) I wanted are not available. Why are some events already sold out?
Tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. We regret that certain events sell out. It is possible that tickets to “sold out” events become available if current ticket holders make changes to or cancel their Family Weekend registration. When this occurs, their tickets are released and become available online. You are welcome to log on to the Family Weekend registration site (using your Registration Confirmation email) at any time to see if any tickets for a particular event become available. - When will I get the confirmation of my registration?
Your Family Weekend confirmation is immediate and sent to you via email after completing the online registration form. A QR code will be included in that email which you can use to check-in to events you booked during Family Weekend (except football tickets and campus tours, which are ticketed separately). Before and during Family Weekend, visit your personal itinerary link and check your email for any event announcements or changes to the schedule. - What if I register for something and I want to change or cancel it later?
You can modify or cancel your registration at any time before 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, September 24. Changes to your registration should be made by accessing the online registration form through your personal itinerary link in the confirmation email received with your Family Weekend registration.
- What is the schedule for the weekend?
The Schedule of Events is posted here and is available on the event registration page by toggling to “Schedule.” - Do I need to expect to pay for anything?
While there is no entry fee for Family Weekend, there are certain ticketed events which have a cost associated, such as the CliftonStrengths workshop ($22) the 5k Fun Run/Walk ($25), and the Family Tailgate BBQ ($20). One exception is that children under 5 may attend the Tailgate BBQ for free. Please be sure to book the appropriate number of Children’s tickets when purchasing Adult tickets for that event. Family Weekend is a self-supported event for Furman families and is not funded by Furman University. - If most events are free and unlimited capacity, why do I need to register?
Although the entry is free, and most events are also at no-cost, reservations are required. This helps us anticipate audience sizes, particularly for indoor events where space and refreshments may be limited. - Who can come to the events?
Everyone! We are bringing the entire Furman Family together…students, alumni, families, and friends. All events are family-friendly, and all ages are welcome.
Does my student automatically get to attend everything during Family Weekend?
We hope your student will attend all Family Weekend events with you, but they aren’t automatically included. You will need to register each individual family member attending Family Weekend, including your student(s). If your Furman student is going to accompany you to a Family Weekend event, you must make a registration for them as well as purchasing tickets for events with additional costs, such as the football game, Tailgate BBQ, or 5k Run/Walk, if you are going to those. - How do I buy football tickets?
Discounted football tickets and parking passes can be purchased separately via this link: https://am.ticketmaster.com/furman/promotional-page?id=MjI3. If you want your student to sit with you at the game, you will need to purchase a seat for them. Note: The Football Game (Athletics) and Campus Tours (Admissions) will appear on your personal itinerary within your registration confirmation, whether you booked tickets or not. If you wish you to attend these events, you must book tickets through their unique URLs; each of these hosts manages their guests independently from other Family Weekend events. - Events appear on my personal itinerary that I didn’t book; Why?!
The Football Game (Athletics) and Campus Tours (Admissions) will appear on your personal itinerary within your registration confirmation, whether you booked tickets or not. If you wish you to attend these events, you must book tickets through their unique URLs; each of these hosts manages their guests independently from other Family Weekend events.
- Where can I find the locations for the events?
Most events take place on Saturday, Oct. 4, and occur in the Trone Student Center or the James B. Duke library. You can find exact locations for all events using the campus map here: https://campusmap.furman.edu/. There will also be signs and staff on-campus to help direct you. - Where can I park? Will I need to pay for parking?
Parking information for Family Weekend is available on our Parking page. Staff will be on-site to direct traffic into parking lots. Most lots are free, however because there is also a home football game, certain lots become reserved. You can purchase parking passes here. Be sure to come early to get a good spot as the campus will host multiple events at the same time. - What if I have accessibility needs?
Please email parents@furman.edu with any specific questions and we will connect you with the right campus partners. - What should I wear?
Most events are casual, so wear your favorite Paladin gear and come ready to meet University leadership, Furman students – current and alumns, and other families.
- Where can we stay in the area? Which hotels are closest?
A list of our preferred hotel partners is available here. Hotels fill quickly, so we encourage you to make your reservation as soon as possible. - What if I want to take my student to dinner off campus?
We encourage you to do so. There are many great options near campus and in downtown Greenville. If you do plan to take your student to dinner, we advise you to make a reservation before you arrive for Family Weekend, since reservations will fill up. - When should we plan to arrive? Do families stay for the entire weekend?
We have great events planned just for you. We encourage you to arrive early on Friday so you can make the most of the weekend. Events wrap up Sunday evening. View the Schedule of Events for more information. - Are classes canceled on Friday, Oct. 3, so my student can attend events?
Classes are not canceled for Family Weekend. Faculty are not expected to alter class schedules, so students are generally expected to attend their classes as usual. However, we recommend that your student connect with their instructors in advance to review the attendance policy for any classes that may conflict with Family Weekend activities. Some faculty may be flexible, but it’s best for students to communicate early and directly. - What if my student does not want to attend any of the activities during Family Weekend? Should I still come?
Yes! Family Weekend is an opportunity for families to enjoy and learn more about Furman, and the more you know about the Furman Experience, the better you can support your student throughout their educational career. If your student does not want to attend, they’re probably just asserting their independence and autonomy, which is natural. Many families attend Family Weekend and see their student only occasionally. Others have their students with them at everything—it really depends upon your student. If you want to come, we hope you will join us. - What happens if it rains?
Barring a hurricane (ala Hurricane Helene in 2024), we plan to host Family Weekend – Rain or Shine! Any events scheduled in outdoor locations have alternate indoor sites in the event of inclement weather. Since we never know what kind of weather to expect in the southeast during fall, it may be best to pack for all four seasons!
