The Furman Concert Choir held a reunion May 16-18 on Furman’s campus with a performance at First Baptist Church, Easley on Sunday morning. Approximately 70 Furman University Alumni singers from the 1970s and 1980s gathered to celebrate, reminisce and sing with their beloved director, Dr. Milburn Price. Joseph Martin ’80 served as the choir’s pianist.

Performed in feature concert at the 2024 Percussive Arts Society International Convention
Alumni Justin Lamb ’18 and Emma Gierszal ’18 and percussion professor Omar Carmenates joined forces with Swiss percussionist Fabian Ziegler and other members of “The John Psathas Percussion Project” to perform a feature concert of composer John Psathas’ at the 2024 Percussive Arts Society International Convention in November 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana.


East Zodiac
Alumni Samuel Hsieh and Vanna Tsikinas came to Furman this spring to present on their nonprofit East Zodiac. Their mission is to foster a community that supports the creation of music by Asian composers. They aim to elevate their voices and create a space where musicians of Asian descent have meaningful representation in the United States.

Willie Cornish Jr. ’22 will be starting his first residency after graduating with a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre, & Dance in 2024. Only three residents were selected for the Arts Initiative program.

Sean Atkinson ’04, trombone, recently stepped down from his role as Department Chair at the TCU School of Music and accepted a position as Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Montevallo University.
Brian Bohannon ’06, trombone, recently accepted a position as Communications Coordinator for Dorchester County in South Carolina. He continues life as an active performer with 42R 9E at United States Army Band and at the Forte Jazz Lounge in Charleston, SC. Brian also played in his first-ever TubaChristmas this year when he joined us on trombonium at the Upstate SC TubaChristmas here in Greenville!
John McAllister ’08, trombone, is active as an arranger, composer, and educator through his website, https://www.johnmcallistermusic.com/. His compositions, etudes, and film music are receiving outstanding acclaim (including an Emmy for film composition). John and Dr. Britt enjoy playing alongside each other in the Foothills Brass Band and Poinsett Wind Symphony.
Will Gray Beach ’11, tuba/trombone, has recently been promoted to Assistant Professor of Music at Campbell University. Dr. Beach will also perform this June at the International Tuba Festival in Valencia, Spain.
Paul Dickinson ’11, euphonium, continues his outstanding work as professor of euphonium and tuba at Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Georgia. He also performs with DIVERGENCE, a professional tuba/euphonium quartet, and the Georgia Brass Band.
Amanda Quinton ’11, trombone; Amanda moved to Nashville after graduation and has worked in the music industry ever since. She has been running her own boutique artist management and marketing company, Quinton Digital, since 2018. Her roster, a blend of celebrated singers and emergent stars, includes artists such as Morgan Wade, Ashley Monroe, Alison Krauss, Marty Stuart, and the Zac Brown Band.
Myrella Samuels ’11, trombone, continues as an active performer in Upstate SC and was recently named to the Board of Directors for the Spartanburg Philharmonic (representing Spartanburg School District 7).
Josh Brown ’21, trombone, is back in South Carolina after finishing a Master of Music degree at the Eastman School of Music. He enjoys his role as Band Director at Leavelle McCampbell Middle School in Graniteville, SC and is a member of the Aiken Symphony.
Jonathan Martz ’22, tuba and voice, is the Chorus Director at Boiling Springs Middle School, sings in the Greenville Chorale, and plays tuba in the Poinsett Winds. Jonathan also serves as a wrestling coach and is a competitive weightlifter.
Henry Niehaus ’24, trombone, accepted a graduate assistantship at the University of Louisville and recently performed with their Wind Ensemble at the Symphony Center in Chicago. Sadly, Henry continues to be a Cincinnati Reds fan:( Go Cubbies!!!!
