SCICU awards full funding for Undergraduate Student/Faculty Research
Charlie Sanderson ’26 (Vocal Performance and Music Theory) has been awarded full funding through the South Carolina Independent Colleges & Universities (SCICU) Undergraduate Student/Faculty Research Program after a competitive application process. Under the mentorship of Dr. Megan Lyons (Assistant Professor of Music Theory), his project “Musical Structure in Contemporary Christian Hit Music” will analyze a corpus of hit CCM songs to find both trends and outliers in lyrics, melody, harmony, form, and more. Charlie’s work will be presented at the SCICU Undergraduate Student/Faculty Research Symposium on February 19, 2026, hosted at Milliken & Company in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

NASM 2025 Dillard Scholar Awards
Congratulations to Jacob Bouchie ’27 (and his teacher Dr. Craig Price) for being named one of three 2025 Dillard Scholar Award winners through the National Association of Teachers of Singing. The award is intended to help students with the cost of attending a summer or young artist program.

"Movers, Shakers, and Noise-Makers"
In March of 2025, percussionists from the Furman Percussion Ensemble and the Greenville Symphony joined forces for a first-of-its-kind concert entitled “Movers, Shakers, and Noise-Makers”. Consisting only of music for percussion, the concert featured contemporary chamber works, ragtime, and audience participation.

Big Events of Spring 2025
In January, Furman Singers joined forces with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra in their performance of John Williams’ score for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban™.
Furman Singers performed at the South Carolina Music Educators Association conference (SCMEA) in early February. They were the only collegiate choir to be selected to perform at this year’s conference.

In early March, during spring break, Furman Singers embarked on a week-long tour to Prague, Vienna, and Salzburg. When they returned, the choir presented two Central Europe Tour home concerts. The theme for the tour and home concerts was “Through the Valley: Singing in the Face of Adversity.”
