Furman Alumnus Bergsvein Toverud Performs with Paris National Opera’s Académie

Paris, France — Furman University alumnus Bergsvein Toverud (‘19) recently took the stage with the Paris National Opera’s Académie, performing the role of Gernando in Joseph Haydn’s L’Isola disabitata from March 11–21, 2025.

A native of Norway, Toverud earned his Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from Furman, where he studied under voice faculty member Dr. Grant Knox. Known for his expressive tenor voice and refined artistry, Toverud has quickly established himself as a rising talent in the European opera scene.

Currently a member of the Paris Opera’s prestigious Académie, Toverud continues to refine his craft through advanced training and performances alongside some of the most promising young artists in the operatic world.

Toverud’s success on one of Europe’s most revered operatic stages reflects Furman’s strong tradition of nurturing emerging vocal artists and preparing them for international careers.
